Red Hot Moses For Nations Cup

Mikel misses Chelsea’s FA Cup rout of Southampton; Ameobi red-carded, Utaka in action for Montpellier, Ike Uche loses with Villarreal

Victor Moses, Mikel Obi (Chelsea):

Super Eagles forward Victor Moses scored a brilliant goal on Saturday in Chelsea's 5-1 romp over Southampton in a 3rd Round FA Cup game at the St Mary's. Moses was in good form for the 72 minutes he played before he was substituted by Marko Marin. His goal came in the second minute of added time in the first half. The goal was his third in all competitions for the West London side.

John Mikel Obi was not listed for the game amid fears that his injury could have been worse than feared- although he did assure of his availability for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Shola Ameobi (Newcastle United):

One-cap Super Eagles striker Shola Ameobi was red-carded on Saturday at The American Express Community Stadium in the 63rd minute after he bagged his second yellow card in Newcatle United's shocking 2-0 loss to Brighton & Hove in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. His younger brother, Sammy, played for all 90 minutes of the game.

Osaze Odemwingie (West Brom):  Osaze Odemwingie was not listed by manager Steve Clarke on Saturday in West Brom's 1-0 win over QPR in the 3rd Round of the English FA Cup  at the Loftus Road on Saturday.

Seyi Olofinjana, Sone Aluko (Hull City): Former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana played for 90 minutes on Saturday at the Kingston Comminucations Stadium in Hull City's 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient ; but his compatriot Sone Aluko was not listed for the game in the 3rd Round of English FA Cup game.

Danny Shittu (Millwall): Super Eagles defender Danny Shittu was not listed in Millwall's 1-0 win over Preston North at The Den Stadium on Saturday in his club's 3rd Round English FA Cup game.

Dickson Etuhu (Blackburn Rovers): Out –of- favour Super Eagles midfielder Dickson Etuhu was not listed on Saturday in Blackburn Rovers' 2-0 win at their Ewood Park over Bristol City.

FRANCE

John Utaka (Montpellier): Super Eagles striker John Utaka was replaced by Gaëtan Charbonnier on the hour mark in Montpellier's 2-1 away win over national league side Bourg-Péronnas on Sunday. Utaka has played 14 games and scored three goals so far this term.

Simon Zenke (Nancy): Former Flying Eagles striker Simon Zenke was a 46th minute substitute on Saturday in place of double goal scorer, Cameroon's Benjamin Moukandjo in Nancy's 5-1 bashing of Droais in the French Cup.
The game was Zenke's second French Cup game this season but eleven in all competitions- having played nine Ligue 1 matches thus far. He has scored one goal apiece in both competitions.

King Osanga (Sochaux): Former youth international King Osanga was an unused substitute on Saturday in Sochaux's 1-0 away win over Thaon in the French Cup. The Korea 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup and Egypt 2009 FIFA World Cup star has played ten games for the B side of Sochaux, scoring two goals and yellow-carded once in 837 minutes but he is yet to play a single game for the senior side.

SPAIN

Ike Uche (Villarreal): Super Eagles striker Ikechukwu Uche was in action for 90 minutes on Saturday in Villarreal's 1-3 home loss to the B team of Barcelona. The skillful striker who is expected to spearhead the Eagles attack at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa has played 18 games this season for The Submarine and still has six goals to his credit.

Obafemi Martins (Levante): Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins who was left out of Nigeria's Africa Nations Cup squad was not part of Levante's 3-1 win over Atletico Bilbao on Saturday at home as the Spanish La Liga resumes. Martins has played 13 games and scored six goals for his  team thus far.

Odion Ighalo (Granada): Ighalo played for 90 minutes on Saturday in Granada's 2-1 home defeat in the hands of Valencia. The former youth international has thus played nine games for his side this season and has no goal to his credit.

Nosa Igiebor (Real Betis): Nosa Igiebor was yellow-carded in the 50th minute on Friday in an ill-tempered game between his team Real Betis and Real Zaragoza which Betis won 2-1 away. The game produced a total of ten yellow cards and one red. The Eagles star who has teamed up with his national team-mates in Faro, Portugal ahead of the Nations Cup has played nine La Liga games this season but yet to score a goal. The yellow card was his first of the season in the La Liga but second in all competitions. He was booked on 13 December in a Copa del Rey game against Las Palmas which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Ramon Azeez  (Almeria): Former Flying Eagles skipper Ramon Azeez was not in action for Almeria as they piped Girona by a lone goal on Sunday. Having been promoted to the first team, the former Golden Eaglets midfielder has played two games for the senior side.

ITALY

Joel Obi (Inter Milan):  Recuperating Super Eagles midfielder Joel Obi was not part of the Inter Milan side that suffered a 3-0 away defeat to Udinese at the Communale Friuli stadium on Sunday. Obi has only played once for the Nerazzuri this term.

Onazi Ogenyi (Lazio):  Super Eagles midfielder Ogazi Ogenyi was not in action in Lazio's 2-1 home win over Cagliari on Saturday after joining his national teammates for the 2013 Africa Nations Cup.

PORTUGAL

Uwa Echiejile (Sporting Braga): Super Eagles left back was listed for Sporting Braga in Sunday clash against Moreirense after the Nigerian Football Federation permitted him to play for his team. He has so far played seven league games for the third placed team this term.

John Ogu (Academica); Peter Suswan (Victoria Setubal):  Nigeria duo of John Ogu and Peter Suswan were not listed for action when their sides played at the EFAPEL stadium on Saturday. Ogu who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury he sustained on Boxing day has so far played ten games, while Suswan who is on the brink of an exit at the club hasn't featured this season for Setubal.
